Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA)
Our involvement on a site generally starts with a ‘Preliminary Ecological Appraisal’ or PEA. This initial walkover is aimed at determining likely ecological constraints on a project as well as any requirements that there might be for further survey.
A PEA typically involves an experienced ecologist examining a site on the ground in order to classify, map and describe the principal habitat-types and then evaluating the likelihood of them supporting protected or other features that might present a constraint to development.
PEA reports may include recommendations for further or specialist survey, as well as an indication of whether such work is likely to be needed prior to a planning submission.
